Long distance hiking in the Ybbstal Alps

The journey is the destination - the long-distance hiking trails definitely live up to this motto.

On many multi-day hikes, some stages run through the wondrous landscapes and cozy communities of the Ybbstal Alps.

Haute Route Niederösterreich

This almost 245 kilometer long long-distance hiking tour runs from Ternitz to Altenmarkt near St. Gallen and, in addition to challenging passages, offers a very varied hiking experience overall, 5 stages of which take place in the Ybbstal Alps.

Ötscher Rundwanderweg

The Ötscher circular hiking trail leads in several stages over the most panoramic points in the region, through the most impressive gorges and ditches in the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park and past the most beautiful waterfalls. From the starting point at the Mariazellerbahn train station in Laubenbachmühle, this circular route can be discovered in seven to ten daily stages. The tour can be found below.

Luchs Trail

The Luchs trail leads through Austria's "wild" middle and connects three internationally recognized large protected areas - the Kalkalpen National Park, Gesäuse National Park and the Dürrenstein-Lassingtal wilderness area. The approximately 200 km long long-distance hiking trail has a total of 11 stages, of which the last three stages are in the Ybbstal Alps.

Via Aqua

The 75 km long circular route connects the communities of Scheibbs, Purgstall, Gaming and St. Anton and takes hikers and nature lovers to the most beautiful places on the water. The Gaming - Trefflingfall - Hochbärneck stage in the Ybbstal Alps is approx. 20 km long. You can find the whole tour below.
