How to get here by car!

This is how you can travel to the region of the Ybbstal Alps!

In the south-west of the lower austrian "Mostviertel" you'll find the vacation region Ybbstal Alps adjoining the provinces Styria and Upper Austria. With its mountain group of the same name the Ybbstal Alps have various vacation opportunities to offer.

By car

from Vienna:

  • to Waidhofen an der Ybbs: 150 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Amstetten-Ost", then onto "Weyerer Straße"/B121)
  • to Ybbsitz: 150 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Ybbs", then "Erlauftalstraße"/B25, turn right between "Purgstall" and "Scheibbs" onto "Grestner Straße"/B22)
  • to Gaming / Lunz am See / Göstling an der Ybbs: 140 kilometres / 150 kilometres / 160 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Ybbs", then onto "Erlauftalstraße"/B25)
  • to Lackenhof: 160 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Ybbs", then "Erlauftalstraße"/B25, turn left on the Grubberg mountain onto B71 and after around 7 kilometres turn left again onto "Ötscherstraße")
  • to Opponitz / Hollenstein an der Ybbs: 161 kilometres / 173 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Ybbs", then "Erlauftalstraße"/B25, turn right between "Purgstall" and "Scheibbs" onto "Grestner Straße"/B22, in Waidhofen at the first roundabout take the 4th road onto "Opponitzerstraße"/B31)
  • to St. Georgen am Reith: 170 kilometres
    (via highwas A1 until "Ybbs", then "Erlauftalstraße"/B25 until "Göstling an der Ybbs", in Göstling turn right onto "Ybbstalstraße"/B31)

from Linz / Salzburg / Munich:

  • to Waidhofen an der Ybbs: 72 kilometres / 183 kilometres / 290 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Oed", then onto roads L84, B122 & "Weyerer Straße"/B121)
  • to Göstling an der Ybbs: 102 kilometres / 213 kilometres / 320 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Oed", then onto roads L84, B122, B121 and continue on "Opponitzer Straße"/B31 via "St. Georgen am Reith")
  • to Lackenhof: 124 kilometres / 235 kilometres / 342 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Amstetten-Ost", then onto roads L97, L89 and Erlauftalstraße/B25, turn left on the Grubberg mountain onto B71 and after around 7 kilometres turn left again onto "Ötscherstraße")
  • to Hollenstein an der Ybbs: 97 kilometres / 176 kilometres / 315 kilometres
    (via highway A1 until "Oed", then onto roads L84, B122, B121 and continue on "Opponitzer Straße"/B31)

from Graz:

  • to Waidhofen an der Ybbs: 150 kilometres
    (via "St. Michael/Obersteiermark" – "Eisenerz" – "Landl" – "Weyer")
  • to Göstling an der Ybbs: 130 kilometres
    (via "St. Michael/Obersteiermark" – "Eisenerz" – "Mooslandl" - "Palfau")
  • to Lackenhof: 140 kilometres
    (via "Bruck/Mur" – "Au bei Turnau" – "Mariazell")
  • to Hollenstein an der Ybbs: 150 kilometres

Important tips for being on the road:

  • If you plan a winter vacation in the Ybbstal Alps, please note the winter tyre obligation in Austria from Nov 1st until April 15th, as well as possible snow chain requirements in some ski areas.
  • On Austrian highways road tax discs are obligatory. In case of a traffic jam be sure to always create a corridor for emergency vehicle access.
  • In case of a car breakdown two austrian automobile associations ÖAMTC and ARBÖ are there to help.
