Obersee

Ponds, lakes and springs

Description

South of the Lunzer See in the Mostviertel is the natural jewel Obersee. Situated at 1113m above sea level, the crystal-clear mountain lake can be reached via a forest path about 10km long. The steep ascent is more than justly rewarded with a spectacle of natural beauty.

The enchanting idyll remains an insider tip among impression collectors and panorama hunters, not least because of the somewhat more demanding, but extremely rewarding path.

Framed by the mountain forest, the shiny emerald green lake also offers a very special natural spectacle: the Schwingrasen. This special feature, which is protected under nature conservation law, consists of dense mats of floating peat moss that begin to vibrate when walked on. However, walking on it is forbidden and could end badly.

If you want to experience this dreamlike spot in the Mostviertel, with the Dürrenstein in the background, you can also plan this in the course of the 3 Lakes Tour with the starting point at the Lunzer See. Please be sure to take enough food and drink with you - there is no refreshment stop until the end of the tour, but during the tour there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy and relax.
