Tannhäuser Schmiede

Company / plant tour, Handicraft

Description

Old guild in a new home: Thomas Hochstädt, a blacksmith, has set up a modern metal workshop in the Tannhäuser Schmiede and lets people look over his shoulder as he forges.
A master blacksmith on the move: After numerous stations around the globe, Thomas Hochstädt has found his home at the Tannhäuser Schmiede in Ybbsitz. Since 2006, he has been working at the foot of the Prochenberg as a self-employed blacksmith and passes on his knowledge in blacksmithing courses and show forging.

From the legend to the forge
Wild stories were once told about the Tannhäuser Cave in the Prochenberg. Master blacksmith Thomas Hochstädt took these tales as an opportunity to dedicate his forge, newly built in 2008, to the mysterious Tannhäuser. Since then, he has been swinging his hammer there and producing metal jewelry, fittings, gates and all kinds of everyday objects.

Learning from the art blacksmith: show forging
When the "zuagroaste" Ybbsitzer art smith is not touring the country and showing off his skills at Advent and craft markets, visitors can also look over his shoulder in his Tannhäuser forge by appointment.
